More humanities seminars online, and they’re not MOOCs

Starting this January forty (40) humanities seminars will kick into action, online. Campuses get to see higher numbers in upper-level humanities seminars, while at the same time expanding the curriculum they present to students. Indeed, this is the second round of classes, as the first one occurred earlier this year (2015).

Black college presidents matter; we should lead from the top

In a 2017 study by the American Council on Education, a higher education association, researchers found that individuals who identified as something other than white held just 17 percent of college and university presidencies in 2016, while representing 42 percent of students enrolled in 2015.

Trends to watch in 2015: education and technology

Here I’d like to identify trends from 2015 which seem likely to persist or grow over the next year. There’s now a movement to teach humanities seminars online. 2015 had a martyr for textbook costs, but I haven’t seen this inspire any movements towards cheaper texts. This rising tide could pause.
