In my own school there is a significant change underway as we abandon our four-year iPad program for a return to students using laptops. To the great mirth of my colleagues, one student included the following comment in the school wide survey that I conducted. Please get rid of my iPad, it’s so distracting.

Use Twitter to quickly and easily assess students’ learning at the end of a lesson, this can be a class twitter account, or individual accounts for older students. There is also a survey feature.

I also heard it’s quite risky to check your laptop in the luggage (you risk theft, damage, or at least loss – until the airlines can guarantee these things won’t happen, I won’t check my laptop or iPad in checked luggage). An update to the Twitter app does the same thing, but allows you to easily remove people from the conversation.
