My oldest daughter, Reaghan, is getting ready to be a 5th grader while my youngest, Chesney, will be a 1st grader this year. Heading back to school with them is one of the busiest times of year. There are lots of meetings, papers to read and fill out, and new things to learn about her school. We still have 2 weeks to go!

Each year our 2nd-5th graders in all Clarke County Schools attend a UGA basketball game. The game is within walking distance to our school so it doesn’t take us long to venture that way. This year, the game fell during the week of Hour of Code. I love how 4th and 1st graders are coding together.

To begin we turned to code.org , a website that introduces coding to students through puzzles and popular games. Angry Birds and Frozen, two coding games, brought logical thinking and discussions about angles and left or right turns.

I can see having a lawyer come in and work with 2nd graders showing them how to argue persuasively for their favorite song, cartoon, or book and give a "mock trial."
