Many schools like my own jumped on the iPad bandwagon early. Because of that, I have 3 carts of iPads in my elementary school that are iPad 2s and 3s. The next operating system update from Apple will not support these iPads. As I look at options chromebooks are looking better and better due to their price point.

For elementary schools or 1:1 iPad districts, I would recommend accessing Curriculet through Edmodo. Students go to Curriculet for reading texts.

Honestly, I look around my class when I look up from my guided reading table and I see kids using Flipgrid, kids making Venn diagrams using the drawing tool in Google Docs, kids making a word cloud using ABC Jot. It’s fantastic! It’s really quite inspiring.

I used to have kids take a picture with their phone or with their iPad of the board of what they were supposed to do for FlipGrid that night, and they’d then have to access that at home. You can also embed images, or even like a prompt in there so kids are being steered in the right direction.
