Through my work with schools on remote and now virtual learning, I have decided to create a one-stop resource that others can use based on successful programs such as the Bullitt Virtual Learning Academy in Kentucky and Davis Connect in Utah. A straightforward way to set this stage is to unpack the standard(s) into a learning target.

A move to real personalized learning at scale is the most logical step. This includes digital pedagogy that consists of purposeful use, a move to personalized learning through blended strategies, use of data to differentiate, innovative assessment, and performance tasks. Professional learning can fill this void.

The fact remains that there was no professional learning to prepare for the reality that everyone is facing nor a plan for something like COVID19. I always like to focus on the small wins when I am facilitating professional learning with schools and districts. My favorites are Mentimeter and Padlet.

Over the summer, they really ramped up how their LMS (Canvas in their case) would be used K-12 to facilitate their hybrid learning model better. These aren’t an effective practice in school, and thus it shouldn’t be a go-to as a means to validate a remote learning plan. These have quickly become a high agency, pedagogically sound strategy to personalize learning in school and can be adapted as part of a remote learning plan. Use playlists and choice boards.
