Social Media in Education

A Principal's Reflections

My answers to Bill''s questions provide a snapshot of my social media in education journey. What made you interested in using social media to reach out to your school community? Social Media is Not Just For Students

A Principal's Reflections

Immediately, visions of excessive socialization, time wasted, and meaningless conversations in the form of updates come to mind. Quite simply, social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook have improved my effectiveness and efficiency as an educational leader. As I learned from my students, many more people use the social media tool, Facebook, than use Twitter. Principals can also use social networking tools for professional growth and development.

Needless to say, there hasn’t been much time in my life for social media as there used to be. We felt that too much of our time on social media as educators was spent sharing how awesome everything is in our classroom all of the time, which could’t possibly be true.

Scientists and social media: an important new study

Bryan Alexander

When it comes to communicating with their peers, scientists use a variety of media, with an emphasis on old-school methods: When it comes to digitally communicating with one’s peers, the leading technology for scientists is… email. In contrast, social media is only a viable communication method for a minority of these scientists. ” That may connect with the general tendency of women to use social media somewhat more than men.
