I tend to refer to these as norms that everyone can get behind. A foundation can then be established for more personalized approaches such as pedagogically-sound blended learning or self-paced activities. Below are the three recommendations I have been providing to help districts and schools persevere during the pandemic.

As a learning community, all members should play a role in providing thoughtful and substantive feedback. Peer feedback is most effective when it is focused, and students have clear guidelines for giving feedback. That way, students can reference the rubric as they work. Peer Feedback Choice Board.

Through tailoring schedules to meet the needs of our students and their families, we’ve been able to increase engagement and encourage ownership of learning. We ended that article with a Spiderman reference: “With great power, comes great responsibility.” Limited exposure by assigning 1-2 teachers for each learning group.
