In 2017, we partnered with Facebook (now Meta) to design four training modules and micro-credentials in social media marketing. Over the course of the partnership, Digital Promise collaborated with 39 organizations across the country to train 3,000 adult learners. The four modules are: Module 1: Social Media Marketing Basics.

During the edWebinar “ Digital Badge Credentials: Preparing Students with Special Needs for Employment,” the presenters discussed how and why digital badges can help students validate their training and verify their credentials with prospective employers. Many times, though, the problem is also a communication gap.

As students develop their skills, they can earn digital micro-credentials as a way to demonstrate the competencies they have built. They can post these micro-credentials on their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, or other social media platforms for future employers to see.

Two weeks ago, I attended the Digital Badge Summit in Denver, CO. I’ve been somewhat hesitant to jump into digital badges world (despite knowing the digital badge ninja, @senorg) because I feared that digital badges were just one more way to categorize and label kids, another carrot to dangle in the classroom.

I remember a few years back during a meeting with teacher leaders, a tipping point that would ultimately change the direction of professional growth at my school. As social media embracement was not even a blip on the radar at this time, these teacher leaders were quite skeptical about the alleged benefits I described.

If results were not what our stakeholders wanted this would then trigger meetings leading to the development of action plans to get us back on course. So many of my teachers are making the choice to integrate social media as a learning tool that I just can''t list all of the examples. Makerspace added to the library in 2013.
