I wanted those first weeks to be engaging and interesting. . In an effort to reimagine the first weeks of school, I decided to use the station rotation model to encourage my new students to interact with one another and learn about our class. Create a slide deck with hyperlinks and student instructions for each station.

Despite my familiarity with all of the ISTE Standards, I have found that I am thinking much more deeply about the ISTE Standards for Educators as I go through this process with my cohort (which I appreciate)… One of our activities asked us to reflect on the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) guidelines.

After reading Catlin Tucker’s blog post, 5 Strategies to Engage Learners Around Flipped Instruction , I was inspired to reflect on and revise a mini-unit I designed focusing on the short film Alike by Daniel Martinez Lara and Rafa Cano Méndez. In the past, I guided students through this sequence of activities as a whole group.

Choice boards allow us to honor our students’ preferences, needs, and interests, making their learning experience more engaging and effective. By integrating choice boards, we put students in the driver’s seat, allowing them to control the pace and path of their learning experience.
