For more advanced editing features and more try Camtasia for free up to 30 days. Your students need a code to access the recordings, which I still think is an extra step too many but you can set up classes and send group messages and feedback to the class. It is great for creating visual how-to guides.

If you want to learn how to make really cool video content for your classroom, or your community group, or for any other reason, I have a perfect method: take the equipment you have on hand, learn how to do every thing it can. This video I shot with my iPad, but then transferred the footage to my laptop and produced it with Camtasia.

I stumbled across Camtasia Studio and bam, I knew I was looking at an answer. Lucky for me, an awesome team of education-focused individuals work at TechSmith (makers of Camtasia). They read my emails, invited me to beta groups, hopped on the phone with me and kept the feedback loop constantly open.

Get students to share devices and produce videos in small groups of 3 to 4. In my digital book, Learning to Go , I provide a handout for students to break into small groups with roles and duties. Camtasia provides a free 30 day trial and has access to incredible editing features, transitions, and screen recording options.

We are jumping right in to learning activities: icebreakers, group work, problem solving, etc. Open Screencastomatic or Camtasia, and select recording a portion of your screen and have the picture in picture on. I do tell the students that they are to read the document carefully before signing. Keep it open on your desktop.
