In June, the Edcamp Community joined our Digital Promise family. The Edcamp Community supports educators to organize and participate in participant-driven professional learning designed by and for educators. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Edcamps were typically in-person and locally focused.

Edcamps are organic, participant-driven professional learning experiences for educators across the country and worldwide! I would say the key difference between an Edcamp and a typical educational conference is that they are unstructured and the sessions are based on sharing expertise. Have you been to an Edcamp?

As testing comes to a close, the next big event for educators on the horizon is summer vacation. Yes, fill your schedule with cookouts and sunbathing, but also make time for some professional development this break. They are also hosting SuperCUE , a free event for superintendents if they “select” you to come.

Currently, a group of 2nd-5th graders are meeting every Friday for one hour to learn to code these robots and create projects with them. Donna MacDonald (Vermont) and Jenny Lussier (Connecticut) are two wonderful friends who inspire me through my professional learning network, and they also have these robots on loan.

Here are some actions we can take to invite diversity into ISTE and other conferences, events, and work we do. 8) Invite Conference organizers can be more intentional about how they get the word out about their event. Make space for them to share what they learned back at your school. If everyone looks like you, change that.
