To ensure access to high-quality educational experiences at the high school level, students enrolled in Grades 9-12 were provided tuition to attend one of two neighboring high schools. Next, the traditional library space was repurposed as Duquesne Media Central, outfitted with flexible seating, new technologies, and a recording studio.

At the Millvale Community Library in Pennsylvania, toddlers and kids gather weekly to work on creative projects. On those days the library morphs into a “makerspace,” overflowing with sewing supplies, circuitry, yarn, and electronics. For several years YOUmedia has operated “learning labs” in libraries across the country.

With Lightning Lab, users can have access to all of their programs no matter which device they use to sign in as the programs travel with the user’s profile. Lightning Lab will make it even easier to use the SPRK robot in the classroom because students can access te instructions and starter code inside of the app.

In Greenville, South Carolina, we followed a middle school library club as they worked together to design a solution to issues they identified in their community. We are working on several new resources and opportunities to support maker learning and Maker Promise signers.

Next week, my tenth graders will have to invent a new way to access the Internet. To expand their knowledge, they had to assemble a library and know how to find books in it. Josh Stumpenhorst has students flying drones in his library. Others built robots or drove my Dash Wonderbot. The focus was on learning.
