I’ve been collaborating globally since 2006 and have seen the power it has to help children be more accepting of people different from themselves. Empatico uses live video, file sharing, a partner classroom at least 300 miles (or 483 kilometers) away, and specially designed activities.

I taught fifth-graders at College View Elementary School. In 2001 I had a one-to-one classroom with Palm Pilots, and in 2005 I started one of the first podcasts from an elementary school. In 2006 I became a self-employed consultant. Teaching in a classroom for the year has reinvigorated my passion for helping teachers.

Back in 2013, approximately 60% of Maine's participating districts chose iPads. Now, as has been reported , a number of districts have opted to move back to laptops from iPads. In 2013, school districts were given the option to participate in one of five solutions, which included Apple laptops, Hewlett-Packard laptops, and iPads.

People have noticed that I’m strengthening relationships with my students, I’ve designed a curriculum that’s engaging for the toughest kids, and I’m using the iPads I found in a corner. I came to the Cobb County School District in 2006. I found out we had a cart full of 40 iPads in a closet purchased with school improvement money.

In 2006 my oldest daughter was in 4th grade and part of the curriculum was called "Daily Oral Geography." She didn't own a smartphone or iPad because they were not yet invented. This was 2006, 11 years ago. In 2006 the ease to get to "facts" using technology was just the tip of the iceberg. elementary?
