At least 17 percent of high schoolers nationwide had “seriously considered” attempting suicide and 14 percent reported they had made a suicide plan in the past year, according to the results of the most recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey by the CDC. Still, Wheeler acknowledged that tactic may not catch every student in need. It’s tough.
