College of Computing Professor Ashok Goel and his team used the 40,000 some odd questions that students had asked in previous versions of the course to build out Jill’s knowledge-base. Coursera has raised over $310 million. Hundreds of millions of dollars of investment were funneled into these (and other) MOOC providers.
