BYOD and the Paperless Classroom

A Principal's Reflections

Students complete assignments whether it’s homework, class work, projects and tests all online using various websites, such as, Edmodo, Tumblr and Instagram on their BYOD devices. Smith has been absent to show they have been engaged, completing their work, and staying on task. Make sure you follow Ms. Smith on Twitter.

MC Assessment = Meta Cognitive Assessment

Baker's B.Y.O.D.

I like Edmodo best for traditional administering of tests. And once the test is created in Edmodo, it is saved in your Edmodo cloud and can be assigned to other classes/groups and edited as needed. As of now, Edmodo tests cannot be taken through the app. Socrative is my choice for BYOD-esque assessments in class.

In order for this project to work, students need access to tech and inter-personal skills to effectively and efficiently work with others. With our Google integration almost ready for roll out in the coming month, I could have students engage in such activities and have them post the projects to Edmodo for sharing and review.

The beauty of Socrative is it can be used via the web or via an app on iOS or Android, so even in a BYOD environment where you have a mixture of devices, as long as they can download an app or hit a website, all students in your class can participate. Great tool for promoting student engagement!
