In 2003, before the Great Recession, Whitmore Lake was like thousands of other school districts across the country. By the end of the 2013-14 academic year, Whitmore Lake had lost about 25 percent of its enrollment, dropping from 1,300 to 960 students. In the elementary school, art classes were cut.
