For the better part of my educational career, I always referred to any type of learning to assist me as a teacher or administrator as professional development (PD). In March of 2009, I began to use Twitter, and it was at this time that I began to create a Personal Learning Network (PLN). I was both enlightened and empowered.

Participate.com allows us to pull all of this goodness together for ourselves and for the learning communities we serve. It’s definitely time for a revisit. Before we can develop students’ digital literacy, we must first equip teachers with the tools they need to create authentic learning experiences in their classrooms.

Currently, a group of 2nd-5th graders are meeting every Friday for one hour to learn to code these robots and create projects with them. Donna MacDonald (Vermont) and Jenny Lussier (Connecticut) are two wonderful friends who inspire me through my professional learning network, and they also have these robots on loan.

This was no ordinary EdCamp. This EdCamp was held at the U.S. One thing was definitely clear.

It is definitely convenient, but does this lead to better learning in the classroom? My answer is that it could actually lead to worse learning, faster. Look at EdCamp. It is the same for personal as it is for professional. But innovation is a way of thinking, not simply the way we use technology.

My goal for my students has always been to learn to think for themselves - to take information and understand it on their level, so it makes sense to them. To essentially say yes to learning! What an amazing opportunity to impart what I’ve learned (both the good and the not-so-good) onto a new teacher.
