Short on financial knowledge, some school districts get bad deals on bonds

A 2013 report estimated that Missouri school districts and local governments could have saved up to $43 million between 2008 and 2011 had they gotten more favorable interest rates on bonds. Also, the debt was structured so that the district was making interest-only payments until 2026, increasing the overall cost of the loan.
