Nationally, about 4 percent of Canadians are indigenous, up from 3 percent in 2001. The new $11 million Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre at the University of Saskatchewan, which has space for indigenous students to meet with advisors, and for events including soup and bannock lunches and native pipe and “smudge” ceremonies.
