Utilizing the approach of learning through doing, the teachers were simultaneously learning about one of the most innovative concepts in science education today, the Maker Movement. They then discussed the real world application of this Maker Movement activity to a classroom.

Turtle Art demo (Turtle Art). Fourth-graders studying westward expansion built their own version of the Transcontinental Railroad, including engineering a way to get their trains over the mountains. Having the context of their experience with the program makes the math concepts more relevant when the time comes to teach them.
