What Are KOSA and COPPA and How Do They Impact K–12 Education?

EdTech Magazine

There was a flurry of activity on Capitol Hill as the 117th Congress wrapped up in December 2022. While some education-focused funding — such as the Child Care and Development Block Grant — made it into the omnibus bill, other K–12 legislation was cut. The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) of 2022 and an amendment to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998 were two bills that congress took off the table to pass the omnibus bill.

Three Keys to Successful K-12 Strategic Plan Implementation

Education Elements

I’ve gotten into strength training recently. I never thought this would be the path for me, a cardio lover, but after a recent foot injury, I needed to step away from running and try something new. I explored apps and training plans, trying to find the right fit for my schedule and preferences. As a consultant who has helped dozens of districts design and implement strategic plans, I also knew I could apply some of the principles we use when supporting districts to my weightlifting journey.

This Student Saw Teachers Lacked a Place to Share Digital Resources. So He Created One.

Edsurge

In his former school district in California, San Ramon Valley Unified School District, Rahul Bir noticed that the schools seemed inundated by technology. It pointed back to something he’d noticed before. Schools have picked up all these new tech tools but it’s not always clear how teachers should actually use them. Lightning struck: There didn’t seem to be a place where teachers could share educational resources with each other, which might help them sort through it all.

Can we make STEM more accessible for girls?

eSchool News

Are girls really underrepresented in STEM? Yes. In the U.S., the workforce is pretty evenly split between men and women, but in STEM fields men make up 73 percent of the workforce to women’s 27 percent. Why? It’s easy to want to find a well-meaning solution for this disparity, or even to brush it off as unimportant. But achieving a gender parity in STEM fields (particularly computer science, engineering, and programmers, among others) isn’t just a feel-good social justice crusade.

With math scores falling globally , top high school math students point to academic burnout as a key factor. Among their recommended solutions to boost math performance? Can Brain Science Actually Help Make Your Training & Teaching Stick?

Speaker: Andrew Cohen, Founder & CEO of Brainscape

The instructor’s PPT slides are brilliant. You’ve splurged on the expensive interactive courseware. Student engagement is stellar. So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science!
