Our students are always crazy about dinosaurs. If you visit the dinosaur section of the library, you usually see a pretty empty shelf. Mike’s visit was thanks to his publisher, Scholastic, and our local independent bookstore, Avid Bookshop. More evidence of the power of an author visit.

As a leader, you can control whether you make the time to visit classrooms to provide valuable feedback to your staff. The more we observe and talk about practice, the better equipped we are to make and lead change. Between the four of us, this came out to 100 visits a week, which resulted in a wealth of data to unpack.

Here are three big questions to ask AFTER a visit from an outside helper: Are we tangibly better as a result of their visit? [or Can we actually do something differently as a result of their visit?

They want to know about firewalls, filters, kidsafe desktops, nannycams, cyberbullying, internet privacy, and everything in between. Block everything you worry about– chicks, Minecraft, girls, Facebook, xxx, murder. Don’t decide you’re too tired one night to go check a website your child tells you they need to visit.
