I sure did and many members of my Personal Learning Network (PLN) still make fun of me for it as I held on a bit longer than most. Apple and Steve Jobs disrupted the smartphone business with the iPhone. Virtually every touchscreen smartphone device today has come to us thanks to the iPhone.

I was able to deal with the ridicule from my tweeps, but it wasn''t until my wife got sick of the fact that I still had a common flip phone that I used for personal calls that a major shift occurred. She eventually gave me her iPhone when it was time for her to upgrade and this has been my primary mobile device for the past year.

My emotions were quickly put in check as my Personal Learning Network (PLN) came through as it always does. Use the webapp, Chrome app, desktop version for PC, Mac or Linux or mobile version with the iPhone or Android app. To say I was depressed, annoyed, and angry would be quite the understatement. Don’t waste any time.

Here are my 8 essential tools: 1) Twitter, because as I recently said in a YouTube video , it is immediate, social and personal. It connects me to my personal learning network (PLN) and is simple to use. 6) My iPhone. It even houses two USB connectors for my iPhone and iPad to charge up. 2) My laptops.

It all began around 2003 when the smartphone wars started with Blackberry, but was quickly taken over by the Apple iPhone in 2007. Technology now allows for professional learning to take place anytime, anywhere, and with anyone. At this point change began to happen at a rapid pace.

I learned at TSETC that Adam runs a 100% free website called eduTecher that reviews and catalogs over 1,100 free web tools as well as offering short videos explaining how to use them in the classroom. In the near future he will have free iPhone and Droid apps.

Here is an example I use a lot where I asked people to give me their thoughts on what a PLN (Personal Learning Network) means to them. They are moving more and more into the mobile market and now you can do video calls on the iPhone. Then the other kids in the class record their thoughts around the image. Need ideas?
