DOGO News: current events and non-fiction for your classroom

The homepage includes the most up-to-date content, but students also have the option to read articles based on a passion they have (science, social studies, world events, environment, fun, video, or sports) or to search for a specific topic. The site is very easy for kids to navigate.

Flipgrid for every classroom

In the science classroom, students can: share each step of an experiment through the scientific method with each step being a new video, document dissection, reflect on failures, show the process of building or designing, make predictions, document process, demonstrate, post wonderings, or class challenges.

Literature-Map: Help students find new authors to fall in love with

If your students do an author study, this site could be useful for helping them find related authors and then using Wolfram Alpha to compare the authors they find side by side. Students can discover new voices, genres, and keep the love of reading alive. Tips: Hat tip to @michellek107 for sharing this with Anastasis staff this week!

How We Got to Now: a student created mini museum

Students chose which innovation they wanted to do a more in-depth study of and would, ultimately, create dominoes based on. The students painted them different colors according to the innovation they were studying (a different color for each innovation). For the dominoes, we snagged a bunch of the flat-rate shipping boxes from USPS.

Making & Science with Google

They are a great kick-off to more in-depth studies of light, sound, and motion and teach students how to use the sensors on their phone and computer to collect data. The activities are simple enough for any classroom, and lead the students through understanding how the world around them works.
