Our learners love their mobile devices. However, many of our learners rarely use their mobile devices to communicate with others face-to-face or develop relationships with their peers. We can guide our learners to communicate and collaborate effectively with their mobile devices by pairing or grouping them to problem-solve and create. Here are a few of the ideas I talked about during my presentation: Mobile Show and Tell - Divide students into small groups (3 to 5 students). Each student spends about 30 seconds sharing a personal photo from a mobile device and the anecdote behind the photo.

We can get our students to learn math in engaging ways by making sure each lesson gets to use the math for real-world learning. Instead of having students solve problems in a book, give them learning missions where they use the principles and equations to explore the school grounds, their households, or the world around them. Students can code a game, learn geometry and trigonometry while building structures in Minecraft , or interview math experts virtually.

The purposes for this initiative were to give teachers an additional tool for teaching and learning and to familiarize teachers with mobile devices in anticipation of more iPads being purchased for classroom use and a grades 6-12 BYOD program coming in the next school year. Educreations can be linked to file locations like Dropbox and Google Drive as well as LMS communities like Edmodo. Audio and video (in addition to the native voice-over and rendered Educreations movie) can’t be embedded into the presentation.

Basically, it turns a classroom upside down (or on it's head) where the learning of a topic is done at home and then they applied practice or "work" is done at school. With Mobile Learning and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) becoming more mainstream, "Flipped Classroom" models are happening more and more, leading me to create my list of favorite tools for "flipping a classroom". Also, students can view the lessons at home on their mobile devices and learn at their own pace.

New Milford High School joined thousands of other schools and educators across the country to showcase how digital learning is changing education. The only thing though is that this day was just like any other typical day at my school as digital learning has become an embedded component of our school''s culture.
