Massive "Mobile MakerSpace" Resource

Adjusting Course

The purpose of this post is to provide the information educators inquire about most often when visiting our school (in person or from afar). Since we didn't have the luxury of designating an extra classroom as a “MakerSpace” we opted for a mobile-cart model. Fast forward to today, and we now have a fleet of 15-20 Mobile MakerSpace carts stored in our Media Center and surrounding hallways. Accessing a cart is as easy as checking out a library book!

Wonder Workshop’s Amazing Dash

Ask a Tech Teacher

Education has many disruptors–3D Printing, AR and VR, 1:1 technology, STEM, and STEAM–but a recent and wildly popular one is robotics. One I discovered this summer is Wonder Workshop’s collection of three robots — Cue, Dash, and Dot. Every day, classrooms around the world demonstrate the collaboration and hands-on learning that the Wonder Workshop robots–Dash, Dot, and Cue–inspire in students. Robotics Competition.

TEACHER VOICE: Children displaced by Hurricane Harvey get a warm welcome from teachers, students — and a couple of robots in this Texas school library

The Hechinger Report

In the library, we’re ready to let them talk about what has happened. This is not your grandmother’s library. It isn’t only books that greet our students here, but also two friendly, coding-proficient robots named Dot and Dash. Dot and Dash have transformed our library into a hub of hands-on learning where we’re constantly in motion, working in groups that plot, collaborate, troubleshoot, and celebrate. I have to know: ‘What’s going on during library time?’”.

Visions of Education Futures Floating Around in My Head

User Generated Education

It may, to the chagrin of many of us, be at a glacier’s pace, but there is hope for the future of education. Most people don’t consider education technology to be such an important industry, but it’s actually gigantic. Traditional education has always been based on the power of storytelling. But, there is NOT just one right way to do library. But should a formal makerspace need to be a part of every school library? . Lately I hear from administrators who, after reading an article or post about makerspaces in libraries, believe their library must have or be a makerspace, without serious consideration of how that program might or might not address local needs. Storms over liberal education: notes on the 2016 AAC&U conference

Bryan Alexander

It was a powerful gathering of campus leaders and practitioners, organized around a common focus on liberal education. I helped start the conference with a half-day workshop on “How Technology Can Enhance Liberal Education: The State of the Art in 2016.” This last point has been a major theme in this quadrant of American higher education as far back as the 1990s. Consensus was: next steps, the future of tech and liberal education.
