Fast-Tracked for Success while Learning from Home

September 2, 2020 | By

As schools across the country rapidly shifted to remote learning this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students and teachers at Verizon Innovative Learning Schools—where every student receives a device equipped with a data plan to support learning in and out of the classroom—had the advantage of already knowing how to use learning apps.

Argyle Middle School in Silver Spring, Maryland, joined the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools initiative at the start of the 2019–2020 school year. In our new video below, which was filmed in the final weeks of last school year, educators at Argyle share how being part of the program fast-tracked their students for success during the challenging adjustment period.

“In the beginning of this experience I wanted Argyle to be a model, and I think we became one a lot quicker than I thought we would,” said Argyle’s principal, James Allrich. “When we come out of this, I think we’re really going to hear from students and staff that being a Verizon Innovative Learning School was really worth it. We’ve been able to push our students to do more, to be more engaged, to stay more connected.”

“I have to give all the thanks and love to the staff at my school who work countless hours every day to do what’s best for our students,” said Cortney Chao, the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools coach at Argyle. “I think we won’t know for a very long time all of the positives that are a result of our hard work.”

Watch the video below to see how the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools initiative has equipped Argyle Middle School for success while teaching and learning from home. Applications are now open for the 2021–2022 school year. Learn more about the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools initiative at verizon.digitalpromise.org.
