Excellent Online Professional Development Resources for Teachers

Educational Technology Guy

'Professional Development for educators is something that I believe still needs to be improved. Many educators have turned online for some of their professional development. Social media provides a great resource for educators, especially Twitter, to connect, share and learn with other educators. There are new forms of in-person professional development, like Edcamps , that are also a great way for educators to learn new things.

Reflections On #ISTE12 Day 1-The Power Of Connectedness

The Web20Classroom

'I''ve spent the better part of 3 days taking part in various parts of the #ISTE12 experience. (Basically, if you don''t know, ISTE is the international conference for technology educators. This year it''s in sunny San Diego.) I have had the chance to meet with educators and friends from all over the world. I''ve sat in on sessions and had conversations in the Bloggers Cafe and in the hallways and the one theme that keeps coming up over and over is connectedness.

3 Easy Things to Do with Your School or District's Facebook Page

Reflections on Summer Travel: What do Social Thinking® and Executive Functioning have to do with Speech-Language Pathology?

SpeechTechie

'In a word: everything! I was thinking of all I have learned, and still need to learn, about executive function and social behavior as I prepared to head from the conference center where this year’s Social Thinking Providers’ Conference was held. It had occurred to me recently what an enormous task it really is to get even my (probably) neurotypical self to the airplane gate on time and without major self-imposed calamities.

Can Brain Science Actually Help Make Your Training & Teaching Stick?

The instructor’s PPT slides are brilliant. You’ve splurged on the expensive interactive courseware. Student engagement is stellar. So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science! With so much material to "teach" these days, we often forget to incorporate key proven principles into our curricula — namely active recall, metacognition, spaced repetition, and interleaving practice.
