Back-to-school season is here! Whether you’re stocking up on school supplies, getting ready to meet new peers, or revisiting strategic plans, this is a busy and exciting time of year. At Digital Promise, we’re kicking off the 2023-2024 school year by taking a look at some amazing initiatives across the organization that fall across research, practice, and technology.
“I’m excited about Digital Promise’s continued research on artificial intelligence (AI) in education and its potential to change teaching and learning. I appreciate how the team is thinking deeply about the need to mitigate bias in AI design, and creating resources to support educators and product developers using AI.”
“I am excited to see what teachers will create with artificial intelligence this year.”
“In addition to leveraging artificial intelligence in education, I am excited for a large-scale project in which teams across Digital Promise will collaborate with schools and communities within a region and demonstrate how the work can scale to put the majority of students on a path to economic security, well-being, and fulfillment.”
“I’m very excited about welcoming our 10th Verizon Innovative Learning Schools cohort and celebrating 10 years of Verizon Innovative Learning. We’re continuing our pursuit of digital equity by adding 32 new schools across 11 new districts to our community.”
“As the 2023-24 academic year rapidly approaches, I am filled with immense enthusiasm to support our latest Cohort 10 schools as they begin their Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Journey! The excitement for this year is amplified by a remarkable milestone—the 10th anniversary of the partnership between Digital Promise and Verizon. I’m believing in BIG things this year!”
“I’m excited to collaborate with my Verizon Innovative Learning Schools team, teachers, coaches, and leaders to design engaging, interactive, and meaningful learning experiences with technology this school year!”
“I’m excited to create more networking and collaboration opportunities for the League of Innovative Schools members, offering national, regional, and virtual events for them to learn from each other.”
“I’m excited about bringing together a community of practitioners, researchers, and emerging scholars at the 2023 CIRCLS Convening. We’ll share critical perspectives on AI and other emerging technology, emphasizing equity-oriented, partnership-centered, empowering designs for learning technologies, with the broader education research community.”
“This school year, I can’t wait to work with the Ciena Solutions Challenge model school educators in Atlanta, Georgia and Ottawa, Canada on their goals around designing solutions to build a better world with their students. I’m so impressed with past projects focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals as well as teachers’ willingness to explore Challenge Based Learning and letting their students’ inquiry drive projects in their communities around problems that are relevant and meaningful to them.”
“Our national convening on October 16-17 will showcase inclusive solutions that school districts and communities are creating to address education challenges. I love shining the spotlight on the good news and solutions in communities that are centering equity to benefit students!”
“Our Micro-credential Platform was recently recognized at the 1EdTech Learning Impact Conference 2023 as a finalist for the Learning Impact Awards. As a competency-based innovation, our submission on Transforming Educator Development with the Digital Promise Micro-credential Platform highlighted our impact through educator micro-credentials, which you can explore on our platform.”
“I’m excited that we’re improving our Micro-credential Platform. We also remain committed to enhancing the platform experience for K-12 and workforce learners.”
“In a recent collaboration with Donors Choose, the Learner Variability Project at Digital Promise shared our Guide to Teaching Students about Learner Variability. This ‘Student Activity Guide’ includes language, tools, and lesson plans created by teachers to help students understand themselves as learners and dispel the myth of an average learner! As a result of using the guide, 97 percent of the teachers who participated in the study noticed some change in their students after they learned about learner variability, and 85 percent of teachers said they plan to change instruction to address learner variability. ”
“I’m so excited to welcome the new cohort of HP Teaching Fellows, part of the #ReinventTheClassroom initiative! I always learn from and am inspired by these educators—and this year is no exception!”
“I’m excited about our new, free community college training modules. These were designed to help faculty integrate global employability skills into what they are teaching. We also have new modules for students to assist them in understanding and developing cultural and global competence. The accompanying toolkit provides over 100 free tools!”
