The reason for that bias is that innovators and entrepreneurs are scarce commodities. Most people are employees and not entrepreneurs. There is nothing wrong with that. A new app that lets users upload photos of insects and animals is aiding the discovery of new species, NPR reports. Photos uploaded to the iNaturalist app are accompanied by a location, and from there, amateur and expert naturalists can examine the photos to identify the species. One of the app’s developers told NPR that making science fun and gamifying it can be challenging when a “mixed crowd” wants both technical capabilities along with open-ended exploration.

Toward the end of last year, I made up my mind that the 2016-17 school year was going to have a big focus on literacy. I of course do a lot with literacy already, but I want to do more. At the close of the year, I talked with my principal about genrefication and the possibility of delaying the opening of our library at the start of the year so that we could get everything organized.

Rock tumbling is an excellent activity to introduce young scientists to geology. It’s a relatively simple process. Simply add rough rocks, grit, and water to a rock tumbler and let it do its job.
