Technology and it’s impact on children: A force for good or evil?

When I see children hooked on Candy Crush and Minecraft, hardly engaging with their friends during social times, I feel worried for them.  What is this doing to their social and emotional skills and wellbeing?  However, there are so many ways tech is used positively.

Pros and cons of the effect of technology on children

I really don’t know what to think!  I do however know that it is vital that we educate children about technology – including both the positive points and the negatives.  Children need to be protected from the harm that can come from technology and it is up to parents, teachers and governments to do so.

What do you think?  Do the pros outweigh the cons?  Let me know by commenting below.

  1. Interesting table to clearly show the pros and cons. I don’t think we have a choice though. Technology is here to stay and it will only become more and more prevalent. We need to get on board, take the positives, expand on them, work with them and make a conscious effort to ensure that the negatives do not become problematic. Being tech reluctant will rob the students of the skills that they need. The main issue is digital citizenship and this should be addressed from an early age and continually revisited. Too often, technology is accessible to students before they are taught how to use it responsibly. All things considered, I’m massively pro-tech. It has completely changed how I teach for the better.

    Thanks for another thought-provoking post.
