Jamf celebrates 20 years of helping organizations succeed with Apple

Jamf celebrated our 20-year anniversary on June 10, 2022. Thank you, Jamf Nation, for helping us to grow and reach so many milestones along the way!

The spark was lit 20 years ago in a college computer lab. As a student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Zach Halmstad (Jamf co-founder) worked full time in the IT department deploying, updating and tracking over 400 student and faculty Macs.

After years of wishing there was a smarter, more efficient way to manage Macs, in 2002 he decided to create his own solution: what we today call Jamf Pro.

Since that time, we’ve followed Zach’s vision to create more efficient ways to deploy, manage and protect Apple devices. Our mission: we help organizations succeed with Apple.

To put it even more succinctly, as Jamf CEO Dean Hager says, “Jamf’s purpose is to empower people by simplifying work.”

Here’s a look at some of the milestones reached in our first 20 years of service.

There is no step three… Jamf milestones

From Jamf’s origin as an IT administration solution for Macs in education, we’ve grown to serve customers across industries and around the globe, with an evolving range of products and platforms designed to serve new iterations of Apple operating systems and devices.

By enabling IT to empower end-users, Jamf helps customers let their workforce focus on their jobs, not the hassles of managing technology. We do this with enterprise-secure and consumer-simple solutions that also protect personal privacy.

In 2021 alone, Jamf added more than six million devices and 13,000 customers. As of the end of the first quarter of 2022, Jamf is running on approximately 27.3 million devices and serves more than 62,000 customers. These organizations include:

  • 9 of the 10 largest companies, as ranked by Fortune 500
  • 22 of the 25 most valuable brands, according to Forbes
  • 10 of the 10 largest U.S. banks, according to Bankrate.com
  • 10 of the top 10 global universities, according to U.S. News & World Report
  • 8 of the top 10 technology companies, as ranked by Fortune

As for the education sector, we estimate that as of the end of 2021, Jamf will empower more than 36 million students via one-to-one and shared Apple devices across more than 32,000 schools around the globe.

November 2021 marked the one-year anniversary of the Apple M1 chip for Mac. In just one year, Jamf customers deployed one million Macs powered by a chip in the M1 family - more than any other company in the world.

And yet again, in 2021 our product and engineering teams delivered on the promise of zero-day compatibility and feature support for Apple’s fall and spring releases.

Relentless self-improvement and growth

Bottom line: it’s you, our customers, and your incredible success stories that continue to drive us to explore what’s possible with Apple devices.

From Wipro practicing what they preach by installing their own company-wide Mac choice program, and UMC Utrecht piloting Macs for secure remote work in the healthcare industry, to Cal State University's CSUCCESS program bringing digital equity to students across California by offering iPad devices to incoming freshmen at 14 campuses, it's because of our customers that we've reached these milestones.

Our promise is to continue supporting our customers and partners and working to help organizations of any size, in any industry, with any level of expertise, succeed with Apple.

Thank you, Jamf Nation. Here’s to another 20 (and many more) years!
