District Voices, Data Insights, In-Depth Discussions: Join the EdWeek Market Brief Online Summit

Managing Editor

How are school district officials navigating the biggest challenges they see heading into next school year? And what are their biggest needs for classroom and non-academic support?

Those are just some of the themes EdWeek Market Brief will delve into at our upcoming online summit, being held June 7-9, during the afternoons (eastern time). You can sign up here.

Among the highlights on the program:

  • Clark County, Nev., Schools Superintendent Jesus Jara will talk with EdWeek Market Brief Staff Writer Emma Kate Fittes about how school districts like his — the nation’s fifth-largest — are dealing with the staffing crisis, and what kinds of support they need from education companies.
  • The superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School System, Alberto Carvalho, will sit for a Q-and-A with Managing Editor Sean Cavanagh about the expectations the schools chief sets for education companies — and what causes relationships with vendors to end up on solid ground, or unravel.
  • District officials from the Chicago and Wake County, N.C. public schools will join Laura Slover, the former CEO of the PARCC testing consortium and current chief executive of CenterPoint Education Solutions, for a discussion of the future of assessment. How are districts assessing for learning loss, and what will be the mix of summative, interim, benchmark, formative, and other measures, going forward?
  • How do education companies set strategies for putting venture capital to use — in product development, building out teams, or expanding into new markets?
  • Three individuals with deep expertise on the publishing and curriculum sector will talk about the impact that recent state restrictions regarding discussing race and gender identity in classrooms will have on the content producers. The speakers are: Kevin Gray, president and chief content officer, Westchester Education Services; Eric Hirsch, executive director, EdReports.org; and Jeff Livingston, CEO, EdSolutions LLC, and the founder of Center for Education Market Dynamics.
  • Many districts scrambled to move professional development online during the worst of COVID-19. Is the future of PD virtual, or face-to-face? Panelists from the Denver Public Schools, the San Diego Unified School District, and the PD provider engage2learn will discuss.
  • EdWeek Research Center Director Holly Kurtz will break down what our surveys of K-12 officials taken over the past year reveal about district’s most pressing needs in tutoring, and how they’re structuring those programs.

And there’s much more. Check out our summit site for details. Look forward to having you as part of the discussion.
