The Principal of Change

Things such as Genius Hour, Innovation Week/Day, Identity Day, Maker Spaces, EdCamps, Flipped Classrooms, revamped professional learning opportunities, using social media to create powerful opportunities for learning, and a myriad of other empowering ways to learn, are things that didn’t exist when I went to school. One of things that I have been really thinking about is not only embracing change, but educators creating it.

I’ve participated in at least four chats each week since then, connected with educators and other professionals all over the world and then taken those connections back to my classroom. The seminal conference for the flipped learning movement, known formally as the Annual Flipped Learning Conference, is entering its ninth and final year as an in-person event, owing — somewhat fittingly — to dramatic shifts in online learning and communication, similar to the ones that birthed the movement in the first place. “The conference has peaked,” explained Brian Bennett, an educator and chairman of the board for the Flipped Learning Network.
