Khan is the creator of Khan Academy. He began his keynote by sharing a video montage of Khan Academy highlights and then presenting some impressive statistics on usage. The catalyst for Khan Academy began some years ago with a Yahoo doodle Sal developed to help a family member with her struggles in math.

Difficult decisions have had to be made regarding grading, making funds available to get technology in the hands of disadvantaged kids, getting school work to kids where the digital divide could not be overcome, and figuring out how to provide professional learning support virtually. Technology plays a huge role, which is why all efforts need to be made to eliminate the digital divide. In the case of the latter, check out this PreK – 12 curricula from Khan Academy. Concepts can be explained using mini whiteboards, slide decks, or digital tools like Educreations. The key, however, is balance.
