A PLN isn't just composed of people you interact with online, but online communities and social media platforms allow for an infinite number of possibilities and combinations depending on your interests. The members of this group can constantly be in flux because you choose whom you want to interact with or reach out to.

The Edcamp model of instruction for professional development seems to fit the bill for the needs of both educators and parents. All Edcamp topic sessions are based on conversation and not lecture. This Edcamp model will get parents and educators talking about learning.

I use social media to share the things I've learned via blogs to help others, I've asked people to join me at educational events like Edcamp Gig City and CoffeeEDU, I've asked people to support me in my JDRF walks to find a cure for type 1 diabetes, and more recently I've reached out to an entire city to help me find my lost dog.

Social Media and Connected Learning. On Saturday morning, during the “Saved by Twitter” session, I watched complete strangers huddle in groups to discuss social media, their use of Twitter, the challenges involved in using social media and I witnessed a few people send their first tweet or use a hashtag for the first time.
