Engage by @KognityEd Virtual Conference on Feb 10: Rethinking Class Discussion to Empower Every Voice #edtech #professionallearning @PearDeck @Flipgrid

I am excited to be participating in and presenting at the Engage by Kognity virtual conference for the second year. Their tagline for this year’s conference, “bridging pedagogy and technology, together,” is in complete alignment with my #TechWithHeart message of always starting with the problem/why before jumping to technology as a solution.

This year’s conference will have three fantastic keynote speakers: Rangina Hamidi (Activist and former Minister of Education), Jennifer Gonzalez (The Cult of Pedagogy), George Couros (The Innovator’s Mindset), and Monica Burns (Class Techt Tips). Additionally, there will be around 50 webinars and workshops to participate in over the course of the day. Sessions will be offered live for optimal participant interaction, but most sessions will also be recorded and available to conference registrants who cannot attend in real-time.

I will be presenting a session focused on Rethinking Class Discussion to Empower Every Voice:

This interactive presentation explores how educators can leverage technology to create a safe learning environment where all students feel empowered to contribute to class discussion in a style and format that feels most comfortable to them. With the right tech tools, we can help learners build new levels of confidence and open up communication channels for students to express themselves in ways they may not have been able to otherwise. This session will highlight how simple web apps — like Flipgrid and Pear Deck — can help teachers give every student a platform to make their ideas seen and heard.

This session will focus on using technology to address the following questions:
– How can teachers actively engage all learners in class discussion?
– How can teachers give all students the opportunity to share their thoughts, including the introverts and those who need time to process before responding?
– How can teachers foster a peer-to-peer learning culture where all ideas are represented and discussed?
