Integrating Coding and Robotics into the Classroom

edWeb.net

Coding and robotics programs in classrooms reflect how integral technology is in our lives. In a recent edWebinar , Kalthoff and Bartel explain that they want to coach students and not just tell them what button to push or the correct sequences to move a robot across a mat. The best approach to introducing robots to K-8 students is as an exploratory program that will interestingly evolve into coding programs that challenge students with more complex projects.

LIVE: Students Are Being Engaged in Robotics and Coding thanks to WonderWorkshop | @WonderWorkshop

TeacherCast

I was instantly charmed by Dash and Dot, the cute blue robots from Wonderworkshop. I was lucky June came along with them because after saying hello the robot just glanced around awkwardly. Before this conversation I had almost no idea what you could teach with robots and I was amazed at all the great ideas June shared with me about using these really engaging robots to support computer science learning in the youngest grades.

Creative Coding and Robots in the Classroom

edWeb.net

Carrie Willis, Technology Director for Valley Preparatory School and Strategic Outreach Manager for Wonder Workshop, and Caitlin Arakawa, Kindergarten Teacher at Valley Preparatory School, dispel these misconceptions, during a recent edWebinar. Teachers do not need computer science degrees to engage, enhance and extend student coding experiences due to the abundance of easily accessible creative coding and robotics programs. This edWeb webinar was sponsored by Wonder Workshop.

Robot teaching assistants help autistic children in the UAE.

Leadership Lounge

Robot teaching assistants help autistic children in the UAE. Robotic teaching assistants are being deployed into autism centres in the UAE to help children learn faster and better. The first robot, provided by ATLAB, a technology-based learning solutions company, is in use at the Umm Al Quwain Autism Centre. Robotic teaching assistants are changing the way the kids are taught. Next week the CDE team will be coming at your live from the CoSN annual conference.

My new friend, Cue!

Kathy Schrock

I have had the chance to use Wonder Workshop's Dot, Dash, and Cue robots at various conference sessions. But these sessions were always guided by the presenter, so I never really got a chance to explore how to code with the robots. I was so excited when Wonder Workshop send me a Cue of my very own! The Cue has a fun personality which makes it feel like a true AI robot! coding CUE robot Wonder Workshop

Storms over liberal education: notes on the 2016 AAC&U conference

Bryan Alexander

Last week I participated in the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) 2016 conference. I was there for a few reasons, starting with having the fine opportunity to lead a pre conference workshop, followed by presenting on two panels, helping out with a Twitter component, and reconnecting with dozens of friends and colleagues. Let me share some materials here, along with reflections on the conference. Preconference workshop.

FETC 2019: Day One

eSchool News

Wearing winter coats and braving the harsh Florida weather, lines formed early for the 8 am workshops. Because this is my 13th FETC, I confidently walked into the conference center as a tour guide for an FETC first timer. The new and improved conference registration location is an upgrade from its previous place in the corner of the Expo floor. These challenges were addressed in the Future of Edtech Administrator and the Future of Edtech Information Technology workshops.

Things to Do In Denver When You’re Ed- an ISTE Look

CUE

ISTE is a conference that will blow your mind with awesomeness but it can also be overwhelming and intimidating if you aren’t prepared. Keep an eye out for rogue robots as well. There’s a larger conversation going on, so use conference tags (#ISTE2016 because why save two characters, right?) If you’re at the conference and away from work, consider setting up an auto-reply so people know you’re busy getting inspired. .

My #ISTE17 Takeaways

Tech Helpful

Big news from Wonder Workshop: Challenge Cards- Dash and Dot are some of our favorite robots to introduce robotics to preschool and elementary students. Obviously there were tons of learning moments at ISTE for me both in and out of the conference center, it's like learning from a firehose, but these are the top things I am excited about! It’s Not About the Tool

The biggest question I get after a workshop or training session is how did our iPad roll-out have so much success both in my classroom and for our school. The next huge success with the 1:1 iPad rollout came with a new little, ball-shaped robot. That year our local environmental group bought my Environmental Club a Sphero robot. We coded the robot to make PSAs about how to recycle in our middle school.
