At OpenEd18 I gave a presentation titled “Questioning the OER Orthodoxy: Is the Commons the Right Metaphor for our Work?” In the presentation I made the point that metaphors are extraordinarily powerful. After this brief discussion, I asked “what if the commons is the wrong metaphor for our work with OER?”

As the title of the document makes explicit, the framework aims to contribute to the conversation about the sustainability of OER: “Toward a Sustainable OER Ecosystem: The Case for OER Stewardship” It’s a valuable contribution to that conversation. I struggle to see how this will be possible.
