The Biggest Give-Away Yet - Thank You Readers and my Personal Learning Network!

Kleinspiration

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting many of my virtual friends face to face in San Diego at the International Society for Technology in Education Conference. I would like to reinforce the positive influence of social networking. Because of social networking and the opportunities to connect at conferences and workshops, I''ve made some incredible friends. Thank you to everyone who supports the work we all share through our blogs and social networks.

It’s New Year’s…Yeah, But…

CUE

If we want to be innovators in education, we must be risk takers at the core. This is how things are done, it’s worked in the past, this is how they learned. But… When asked what they learned, both students replied: “We learned to look up a picture, copy it and label.” Because our students should be thinking, learning, understanding and creating. Life is messy, and part of our job is to help students learn to navigate through life.

Pillars of Digital Leadership Series: Professional Growth

A Principal's Reflections

However, the mounting pressure from ridiculous mandates as a result of the current education reform movement and massive budget cuts across the country, have made it a challenge to learn through traditional pathways. It is a shame that the growth of leaders, and all educators for that matter, is a trivial concern to districts and so called reformers, unless it is solely related to the Common Core, PARCC, SGO’s (in NJ at least), or a teacher/principal evaluation tool.

Happy Connected Educator Month

Kleinspiration

What does it mean to be a Connected Educator? When I began my teaching career a few short years ago, I never would have imagined having such an expansive network of people that I consider colleagues and friends. This is why I''m so happy to have the liberty to connect with the people I decide to include in my network, create projects that are of interest to me, and write posts that I determine are worthy of writing. There truly are people behind the networks.

Autonomy Breeds Change

A Principal's Reflections

They desperately sought time during the school day to engage in professional growth opportunities, learn how to integrate Web 2.0 tools, and develop their own Personal Learning Networks (PLN’s). The inspiration for this idea came from Google’s 80/20 Innovation Model where engineers are encouraged to take 20 percent of their time to work on something company-related that interests them personally. A great deal was learned after I reflected on year one of the PGP.
