Charlotte, NC – Today The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at NC State University’s College of Education and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) released an in-depth case study on CMS’ Personalized Learning (PL) efforts. CMS schools agree that the transition to PL is a work in progress.

New Mexico’s Carlsbad Municipal Schools (CMS) announced today it is expanding its partnership with Discovery Education for 3 more years to support a new K-12 STEM strategy set for implementation in 10 district schools. In addition to STEM Connect, CMS will soon launch the STEM Leader Corp capacity building model.

The equity initiative for CMS is based on their report, Breaking the Link. In a survey, 97% of the CMS teachers who responded said they thought they were teaching to the North Carolina education standards. Currently, Dr. Barnes is the Chief Equity and Accountability Officer of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) in North Carolina.

All of us in CMS are very proud that our students’ work has been nationally recognized,” said Joey Burch, principal at Levine High School. “By As a national PSA, it could save lives by showing what happens when you text and drive.” The students were awarded $15,000 and the opportunity to transform their video into a TV-ready PSA.

As a result, in the months and years ahead, we became a cohesive group of educators who created common strategies for instruction, met weekly to discuss progress, review data and improve teaching and learning. We transformed our middle school grade level team to a Professional Learning Community and quickly saw the results with our students.
