Why #Edcamp Is So Awesome

The Web20Classroom

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending another Edcamp. Don''t know what an Edcamp is or looks like? My experience with Edcamp has been that of a participant and an organizer (EdcampNC!). And seeing it from all sides really helps me believe that Edcamp, is quite possibly the best Professional Development I''ve had. Edcamp appeals to educators from all walks of life. The sessions at an Edcamp you would be hard pressed to find any where else.

Interesting idea - Chromebook + Nexus 7 instead of just an iPad

Educational Technology Guy

At EdcampCT this past week, I was chatting with Greg McVerry ( @jgmac1106 ) about devices, 1-1 and BYOD and he made an interesting comment. Android chromebooks edcamp google Chrome OS Google for Educators iPad Instead of a school purchasing an iPad and keyboard for all the students, what about a Chromebook and Nexus 7 for each student? I like this idea for a lot of reasons.

Is Edu Connected Collaboration Just Whistling In The Wind?

My Island View

Edcamps, One-to-One initiatives, Flipped Class, BYOD and connected collaboration were all topics discussed and vetted long before they were even recognized in the brick and mortar world of education. Like many people my first foray into the virtual world of connectedness was through Facebook. I connected with family and friends. This led me to consider making some professional connections out of necessity. I began my connected collaboration as an educator over a decade ago.

A true gift from SHEG: DIY digital literacy assessments and tools for historical thinking

NeverEndingSearch

You may remember Stanford History Education Group (SHEG) for its groundbreaking and utterly depressing report, Evaluating Information: The Cornerstone of Online Civic Reasoning. In the November 2016 Executive Summary , the researchers shared: When thousands of students respond to dozens of tasks there are endless variations. That was certainly the case in our experience.

My EdcampNJ Highlights

Baker's B.Y.O.D.

I use a mix of devices with some days in the class being BYOD and others using the school''s computers and netbooks (as available). I also use QR Codes, Socrative and InfuseLearning for other BYOD activities, and Today''s Meet for backchanneling. Keep those eyes peeled at Edcamp-- resources can be found anywhere! Bringing ISTE 13 home

Kairos EdTech

You may have been inspired to begin an EdCamp , undertake a 1:1 initiative, a BYOD system to your district, expand your PLN or whatever it is… make a list of what to do, make a plan and make it public. This can be done via Google Hangouts, via Twitter chats; via unconferences, such as EdCamps; via blogs or in person, of course. Photo by Larry S. Anderson ISTE''s Annual Conference is very simply the Mecca of EdTech learning.
