New Student Discovery Sets for Tablets from LOC
A couple of years ago, I wrote about the first six Student Discovery Sets published by the Library of Congress.
The collection, now at 15 titles, covers so many of the themes studied in our school programs. This week, three new sets launched:
- Scientific Data: Observing, Recording, and Communicating Information
- Weather Forecasting
- The New Deal
If your school has a tablet or 1:1 or BYOD program, this is a perfect way to leverage those small screens to enhance inquiry learning across the curriculum.
The Library of Congress Student Discovery Sets allow learners to get up close and personal with primary sources on their individual tablets. They inspire critical thinking and deep analysis of “text” in multiple formats.
The sets offer
historical artifacts and one-of-a-kind documents on a wide range of topics, from history to science to literature. Interactive tools let students zoom in, draw to highlight details, and conduct open-ended primary source analysis.
Each set offers a full Teacher’s Guide offering background information, teaching ideas, and links to additional resources from LOC’s Teachers page, including these fabulous, open-ended guides and analysis tools. (Note: one of my favorites is the interactive Primary Source Analysis Tool that offers contextual prompts for a variety of media formats.)
