According to a 2021 report from the think tank New America, 1 in 8 children from low-income families don’t have a computer at home, while 1 in 7 lack access to broadband internet. In May 2021, Think College Now elementary students sit in class after returning to in-person learning. The homework gap isn’t new. for only a few weeks.

And while that makes her sad, it’s not what bothers her most after 34 years in the classroom. “My Along with Rose, I contacted a middle and an elementary school teacher to see how they are faring. They told me they are often frustrated, longing for classroom interaction and eye-contact. I’m calling and emailing them constantly.

Our reporters are spending the year listening to people from across the country as they manage school districts, lead classrooms, parent students and attend school. Individuals are stressed with doing more to cover and to supervise children when they are not in classrooms. We have horrible broadband, horrible cell service.
