The Drivers of a Successful BYOD Initiative

A Principal's Reflections

Technology seems to be more accessible that ever before. Access to technology is by no means isolated to only adults. As devices have become more affordable over the years, parents have bestowed a variety of mobile technologies upon their children. As a result of the advances in technology and an increase in Wi-Fi access, schools have slowly begun to respond to this trend. This has resulted in a growing trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiatives being adopted.

Quick Collection Of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Resources

The Web20Classroom

Students get the opportunity to use the technology they are familiar with and be exposed to how technology is being used by their peers. But while students are embracing BYOD with loud applause, educators are taking a step back and thinking about the impact BYOD has on their teaching. This week I am thinking about BYOD resources. Whether you’ve been doing BYOD for a number of years or just starting out there is something for everyone to learn.

The role of parents to a successful BYOD program

Neo LMS

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs are a natural corollary to technology-based educational initiatives. Proponents of the concept cite many benefits: the immediacy of technology integration, student preferences for using their own devices, the fact that devices are better looked after by students, and the opportunity to concentrate funding for devices on students in need. BYOD has an obvious impact on parents and other support structures students rely on.

Formative Assessments Are Easier Than You Think!

The Web20Classroom

When I was teaching science one of the best lessons I learned was about formative assessment. Deliver content to my students, assess at the end, remediate if necessary. Now, as 1:1 and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) are taking over our schools, its becoming even easier to formatively assess what our students know and for our students to leave feedback as to what they need. Here are a few sites and apps to help with formative assessments. formative assessment

Measuring Impact with the Digital Practice Assessment (DPA)

A Principal's Reflections

Practices such as BYOD, 1:1, blended learning, personalized learning, classroom and school redesign, branding, makerspaces, professional learning, etc. One of these tools is the Digital Practice Assessment (DPA). It begins by examining the strategies in place at each school or district that support student learning with technology in the areas of rigor, relevance, relationships, engagement, and overall culture. The DPA doesn’t just look at technology and innovation.

Implementing Mobile Devices With a Focus on Learning

A Principal's Reflections

Hypothetically, effective mobile learning can empower learners by enabling them to better assess and select relevant information, redefine their goals, and reconsider their understanding of concepts within a shifting and growing frame of reference (the information context).” — Marguerite L. As a principal I quickly saw the potential in mobile learning and as a result our school became the first to embrace Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) back in 2010.

Why are some educators still reluctant to using technology in the classroom?

Neo LMS

Technology seems to be involved nowadays in most aspects of education and many schools are adopting it quite well, whether it’s adopting BYOD initiatives, blended learning, flipped classrooms , creating content using authoring tools, or using a learning platform. It’s amazing how the amount of technology available today makes learning more interactive and easier. The worst part is that there are some educators that actually completely refuse to use any educational technology.

Conversations about technology in education always seem to be focused on the reasons why students need this or that technology. It’s rare when anyone considers the other—and perhaps more important—angle: Students want to learn with technology. The Seeds of Innovation

A few weeks ago, I made a commitment to visit schools that are using social media, smartphones, texting, and other digital technologies, as a vital part of daily classroom instruction. The only criterion that I had was the school had to be entrenched in their use of the above-mentioned technologies. Not enough schools are truly integrating technology into instruction, as well as encouraging students to bring their own technology to school.
