By definition, open educational resources (OER) are licensed in a manner that gives you permission to change, update, and improve them. Learning analytics, on the other hand, can provide great insight into where course materials – including OER – are not effectively supporting student learning.

For over a decade, plenty of time and dollars have been poured into encouraging the use of open educational resources (OER). In 2007 the Hewlett Foundation’s funding helped create OER Commons. From my experience, the answers usually are: OER resources are in silos. Last year, the U.S. Many of the silos are poorly organized.

One of these days, after I’ve retired, I’m going to write a radically restructured, OER-based freshman music theory course, based on research I did early in my career and what I’ve learned about good teaching since then. Consequently, machines can compose music in the style of Bach.

Curating OER. It often refers to the gathering and contextualizing of OER to replace expensive traditional texts and to include them in learning management systems. Clearly, curation is not only about OER. For one thing, not all OER are created equally good and not all commercial products are at all bad.
