Teaching digital citizenship as a “one-off event” doesn’t lead to changes in behavior, experts say. According to Common Sense Media’s study “ Zero to Eight: Children’s Media Use in America ,” the percentage of children ages eight and under who’ve used a mobile device nearly doubled from 2011 to 2013, from 38 percent to 72 percent. Ribble has written a book about the topic, called Digital Citizenship in Schools , and a new edition is available this fall.

For anyone who missed the April announcement, Twitter switched its app category from ‘social media’ (where it consistently ranked in the top ten with Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Pinterest) to ‘news’ (now ranked #1, ahead of apps like CNN, Fox News, and Reddit).
