But, how does the 2010 vision for edTech match what’s actually happening today? ” 2010 was also the year that the Common Core Standards Initiative was enacted in response to numerous indicators of low student academic performance.

QR Huh? What The Heck Is A QR Code?

The Web20Classroom

When I was in the classroom kids would go to the library and literally judge a book by its cover. Have you seen these around town where you are lately? I was a little surprised when I saw them all over the Black Friday ads back in November. This is a QR or Quick Response Code. Simply, put it is a 3D barcode. It''s a much more sophisticated version of the barcode on your bag of Lays Potato Chips. QR Codes are popping up everywhere and are gaining in popularity in education.

Exemplary Practices in 21st Century Learning

A Principal's Reflections

The larger the library of exemplary practices, the more powerful this resource will be for everyone! This past Saturday I happened to stumble upon a conversation on Twitter between Tom Whitby , George Couros , and Nancy Blair where they were discussing 21st Century Learning. What fascinated me about this discussion was the fact that they came up with this idea to create a wiki where educators from all over the world could share examples of student innovation.

Students in rural areas, however, may only have access to a broadband connection to the internet at their local library or at their school. It is quite clear that a student with broadband access in his or her bedroom has an enormous advantage over the student who needs transportation to the county library, or needs to be picked up after the school buses are long-gone having utilized their school’s broadband connection.

Funding for school libraries and funding for other student literacy programs (like the National Writing Project) is being threatened both federally and in states across the country.
