The Edtech Revolution: 2010 – 2017

Securly

In December 2010, The Journal –“t he leading Technology based education publication for K-12 and higher education”– published an article with a 5-prong prediction for the following year. But, how does the 2010 vision for edTech match what’s actually happening today? Given that many children were acquiring iPads for personal use, some schools adopted a Bring Your Own Device ( BYOD) Policy. The proposal must meet Florida Department of Education criteria.

Are Students Off-Task in Class on Phones? There's an App for That!

A Principal's Reflections

Recently I recently learned about Pocket Points , an app that educators are using to promote better decision-making amongst students with the goal of keeping them off their phones when not being used to achieve learning outcomes associated with the class. As the principal, I decided to implement Bring Your Own Device back in 2010 as a way to not only take advantage of student-owned devices but to also improve the learning culture through more empowerment and ownership.

Implementing Mobile Devices With a Focus on Learning

A Principal's Reflections

As a principal I quickly saw the potential in mobile learning and as a result our school became the first to embrace Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) back in 2010. With any initiative, especially BYOD or 1:1, the focus has to be on learning. Koole’s (2009) Framework for the Rational Analysis of Mobile Education (FRAME) model provides a more holistic framework for mobile learning. Academic achievement in BYOD classrooms.

Are You a Critical Consumer?

A Principal's Reflections

The education space is not immune to some of the prevalent issues and challenges described above. As we explored moving towards Bring Your Own Device ( BYOD ) in 2010, I was able to glean powerful insights and evidence of efficacy from the Forsyth County School District in Georgia. Going BYOD sounded like a great idea based on what I had either read or saw online. Digital literacy is more important now than it has ever been.

Change is a Mindset

A Principal's Reflections

Heck, our education system has become so good at maintaining the status quo and enforcing compliance throughout that we and many others have been brainwashed into thinking any other course of action would be foolish. If education is good for one thing it is making excuses not to move forward. It really is about moving from a fixed to a growth mindset, something that many educators and schools are either unwilling or afraid to do.

I have a suspicion that these simple words—“every” and “all”—are often overlooked by the hundreds of people who make up an educational organization. These are the students often forgotten by the educational system, despite promises to serve every child. Digital Divide 2.0: a few facts and figures

Neo LMS

Technology is transforming education, the change is as inevitable as that which the printing press brought to education. I personally believe that technology-enhanced education is and should be an organic process, where students themselves are the driving force in the adoption, development, deployment and design of ed-tech. I mined their 2017 report for some details to guide our thinking on the digital divide with regard to education. Welcome to NEO Blog 2018!
